BNP sees ‘inevitable victory,’ urges supporters to guard vote counting
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Thursday expressed strong confidence in winning the 13th national election, declaring its victory “inevitable” while urging party leaders and supporters to remain vigilant until the final results are announced.
Speaking at a press conference at the BNP Election Management Committee office in Gulshan, committee spokesperson Mahdi Amin called on party polling agents and activists to closely monitor the vote counting and result declaration process.
“Those involved in overseeing the election from BNP and its allied organisations must ensure that no irregularities occur during counting and result announcement,” he said.
Claiming that voters turned out with “enthusiasm and hope,” Mahdi Amin said the mandate reflected people’s desire for democratic change. “Inshallah, the elected government will uphold the people’s verdict in a democratic Bangladesh,” he added.
While thanking the Election Commission, the armed forces, the interim government and law enforcement agencies for facilitating what he described as a largely smooth voting process, the BNP leader also alleged attempts to undermine the polls.
He cited incidents of violence, ballot manipulation and the use of “black money” aimed at influencing voters and suppressing turnout. He further alleged efforts to deploy fake local observers, an issue the party said it had previously raised with the Election Commission.
Despite what he termed “obstacles and provocations,” Mahdi Amin maintained that the momentum was in BNP’s favour.
“The wave of ‘Dhaner Sheesh’ (sheaf of paddy) represents BNP’s victory and the victory of democracy. Bangladesh’s victory is imminent, Inshallah,” he said.
The briefing was attended by BNP Media Cell convener Professor Maudud Hossain Alomgir Pavel and committee member Shairul Kabir Khan, among others.
As counting continues nationwide, BNP leaders signalled that they will be closely watching developments, framing the election as a decisive moment for the country’s democratic trajectory.
