BNP candidate Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed narrowly lost to his rival at a polling centre of the college he founded in Dhaka-8 constituency, according to unofficial results of the 13th national parliamentary election.

The results from Mirza Abbas Women’s College (Women’s Voter Centre-2) in Shahjahanpur show that Md Nasiruddin Patwari of the National Citizen Party (NCP), contesting with the Shapla Kali (water lily bud) symbol, secured 523 votes.

Mirza Abbas, who contested with the BNP’s Sheaf of Paddy symbol, received 516 votes, trailing by just seven ballots.

Other candidates received significantly fewer votes at the centre:

Kefayet Ullah (Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Fan) – 11 votes

Tridip Kumar Saha (Communist Party of Bangladesh, Scythe) – 7 votes

Meghna Alam (Gana-Odhikar Parishad, Truck) – 7 votes

SM Sarwar (Bangladesh Islamic Front, Candle) – 5 votes

Md Zuber Alam Khan (Jatiya Party-JP, Plough) – 5 votes

The narrow margin at the women’s polling centre underscores the closely contested nature of the race in Dhaka-8, where vote counting is still underway.
