BNP’s Ashfaque leads in Dhaka-1, counting still underway
BNP-nominated candidate Khondaker Abu Ashfaque is currently leading in the Dhaka-1 constituency, according to the latest unofficial results from multiple polling centres.
Ashfaque, contesting under the party’s ‘Dhanner Sheesh’ (Paddy Sheaf) symbol, has gained leads in most centres counted so far.
However, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Mohammad Nazrul Islam, with the ‘Daripalla’ (Scale) symbol, continues to pose a strong challenge at several polling stations.
Sources at the Dhaka District Returning Officer’s office said Ashfaque has taken notable leads in centres including Mahmudpur BM Government Primary School, Lotakhola Azahar Ali Memorial High School, Maruapota Government Primary School, Nayan Shree Tashulla High School, and multiple centres across Dohar and Nawabganj.
Some centres, however, saw a tighter contest. At Joypara College, Nazrul Islam polled 820 votes against Ashfaque’s 741, while at Narisha Khalpar Government Primary School, the scale symbol secured 764 votes versus 753 for the paddy sheaf. At Muksudpur Shamsuddin Shikdar High School, Nazrul Islam received 925 votes against Ashfaque’s 817.
With results from several centres still pending, the final outcome in Dhaka-1 will become clear once all votes are fully tallied.
