National Citizen Party joint convener Sarwar Tushar has accused the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate of committing ‘gaddari’ (betrayal) against the alliance in Narsingdi-2 constituency.

Sharing unofficial vote counts for candidates with the paddy sheaf, scales, and shapla kali (water lily bud) symbols, Tushar claimed that if the Jamaat candidate had fully cooperated with the grassroots level of the alliance, the eleven-party coalition could have won the seat by 10,000–15,000 votes.

He added that voters in Palash were influenced by the perceived disunity within the alliance. “The strong presence of BNP leaders and activists at the polling centres and the alliance’s inaction affected the voting,” he said.

Referring to the Jamaat candidate’s actions, Tushar warned, “Bangladesh will remember this betrayal. I had to contest against candidates of paddy sheaf and scale symbols simultaneously. Without the scales on the ballot, the election outcome here would have surprised the nation.”
