Double victory for Tarique; Shafiqur secures Dhaka-15
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman won both the Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6 constituencies in the 13th national parliamentary elections, while Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman emerged victorious in the Dhaka-15 constituency.
According to the unofficial results of the Dhaka-17 constituency, the BNP chairman secured 72,699 votes. His nearest rival, Jamaat candidate SM Khaliduzzaman, received 68,300 votes. Tarique Rahman won the seat by a margin of 4,399 votes.
The result was announced around 4:00 am on Friday (February 13) by Dhaka Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury. He said voting was held at 125 centres in Dhaka-17, including postal votes.
Meanwhile, in the Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency, Tarique Rahman secured a landslide victory. He was unofficially declared elected after receiving 118,654 more votes than his nearest rival.
The unofficial result was announced at around 1:30 am on Friday (February 13) by Bogura District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Md Toufiqur Rahman from the result collection and distribution centre.
According to the announced results, out of 150 polling centres (151 including the postal vote counting centre), Tarique Rahman received 216,284 votes. His nearest rival, Jamaat candidate Abidur Rahman Sohel, received 97,626 votes.
On the other hand, in the Dhaka-15 constituency, Jamaat Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman secured 85,131 votes. His nearest rival, BNP candidate Md Shafiqul Islam Khan, received 63,517 votes. The Jamaat amir won the seat by a margin of 21,614 votes.
The result was announced early Friday (February 13) by Regional (Dhaka Region) Election Officer Md Yunus Ali.
