Jamaat candidate seeks halt of Dhaka-6 results
Md Abdul Mannan, the Jamaat-e-Islami nominated for Dhaka-6, has filed an application with the returning officer and the Divisional Commissioner seeking to suspend the election results for the constituency, citing alleged irregularities.
Mannan submitted the written application at the Divisional Commissioner’s office in Segunbagicha, Dhaka, in the early hours of Friday, February, 13.
In his petition, he alleged discrepancies between the final results, the counting sheets, and presiding officers’ reports, raising concerns about the accuracy of the vote tally. He also claimed that some ballots were not properly counted, and noted inconsistencies between preliminary data and the officially published results.
The candidate highlighted that in several centers, the number of rejected votes was shown as zero, which he described as unusual.
Raising concerns over alleged irregularities and bias in the appointment of presiding officers, he pointed out delays in result announcements in some polling stations.
Mannan requested that the Dhaka-6 results be suspended, recounted, and investigated for possible tampering, emphasising that the measures are necessary to ensure transparency and maintain public confidence in the electoral process.
