Gazette of referendum results published

The Election Commission (EC) has published a gazette notification of the results of the historic referendum held on the implementation of the July National Charter and the proposed constitutional reforms.

According to the gazette, 48,200,660 votes were cast in favour of the ‘Yes’ vote.

The notification, signed by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, was published from the Bangladesh Government Press in the early hours of Saturday, February 14.

It said that in the referendum held on February 12, a total of 22,071,726 votes were cast against the proposals, meaning 'No' votes.

The gazette further stated that a total of 77,695,023 voters exercised their franchise in the referendum.

Of them, 70,272,386 votes were declared valid, while 7,422,637 ballots were rejected.
