Tarique, Nahid stress dialogue to resolve national issues
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairman Tarique Rahman and National Citizen Party (NCP) convener Md Nahid Islam have emphasised that national problems should be resolved through dialogue.
The information was shared with the media by NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain following a courtesy meeting between the two-party leaders on Sunday night.
Tarique Rahman arrived at Nahid Islam’s residence on Bailey Road in the capital at 8:25 pm and left around 9:10 pm after the meeting.
Akhtar Hossain said that during the meeting, Tarique Rahman and Nahid Islam discussed ways to work together for the country despite political differences. They also exchanged views on advancing reform initiatives and the process of justice. He noted that this post-election courtesy meeting could be considered an important development in Bangladesh’s political culture.
He added that BNP leaders accompanying Tarique Rahman also stressed the importance of resolving problems through dialogue. “Through today’s meeting and courtesy visit, we are hopeful that Bangladesh will be able to address any crisis through dialogue,” he said.
Akhtar further stated that although the NCP has questions regarding election results in several constituencies, they welcomed Tarique Rahman’s visit as a gesture of political courtesy and congratulated him on his electoral victory.
He also remarked that the post-election courtesy meeting between the BNP and NCP signals a possible positive change in Bangladesh’s political culture. While political programmes and statements may differ, all parties should remain united on national issues and make decisions together — an environment they hope will be established in the country.
