The BNP’s newly elected members, who secured a landslide victory in the 13th national parliamentary election, have taken their oath as members of parliament. However, they did not take the oath as members of the Constitutional Reform Council.

Before the oath-taking ceremony at the parliament, Salahuddin Ahmed, a member of BNP’s Standing Committee, informed the party MPs that they would not be taking the oath as members of the Constitutional Reform Council today.

The event was attended by the party chairman, Tarique Rahman, along with other newly elected MPs.

Holding two forms—one white and one blue—Salahuddin said, “None of us have been elected as members of the Constitutional Reform Council, and it has not yet been incorporated into the Constitution. If a Constitutional Reform Council is to be formed based on the referendum, it must first be included in the Constitution, and provisions must be made for members to take the oath. These forms will be included in the Third Schedule of the Constitution. Once adopted constitutionally by the parliament, provisions can be made for members of the Constitutional Reform Council to take the oath. Until now, we have acted in accordance with the Constitution, and we hope to continue doing so in the future.”

He added, “On the instruction of our respected chairman and in his presence, I have conveyed our party’s decision.”
