NCP to boycott cabinet swearing-in ceremony
The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced that it will boycott the swearing-in ceremony of Bangladesh’s new cabinet scheduled for Tuesday, February 17, citing concerns over the political process.
NCP Joint Secretary and Narayanganj-4 MP, Advocate Abdullah Al Amin, posted on his verified Facebook account that while the party’s elected representatives will take oath in their roles as members of the Constitution Reform Council and as Members of Parliament, they will abstain from the cabinet ceremony.
“Out of respect for the people’s mandate and their aspirations, our elected representatives will assume their parliamentary and constitutional responsibilities,” he wrote.
“However, as the BNP has disregarded the public’s mandate and the hopes expressed in July, we will not participate in the cabinet swearing-in today.”
