Bogura-6, Sherpur-3 by-polls on April 9

By-elections to the Bogura-6 and Sherpur-3 constituencies will be held on April 9.

Md Ruhul Amin Mallick, public relations officer at the Election Commission (EC), provided this information on Tuesday, February 24.

The Commission said it will announce the schedule for the by-polls this afternoon, and necessary preparations have been taken.

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman contested the February 12 general election from the Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17 seats and was elected from both seats. But he left the Bogura-6 for the by-election and took oath as an MP from the Dhaka-17.

Besides, the EC on February 4 postponed the election to the Sherpur-3 constituency following the death of Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Nuruzzaman Badal.

The elections to 299 out of the country’s 300 constituencies (except Sherpur-3) were held on February 12.
