What was meant to be a festive afternoon turned tense as Shafiqur Rahman, Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, fell ill on his way to an Iftar mahfil in Shewrapara on Tuesday.

Shafiqur Rahman had been invited as the chief guest at the discussion and Iftar programme organised by Kafrul West unit of the party in his electoral constituency, where party members and supporters had gathered to celebrate and engage with their leader.

According to Abdur Rahman Musa, Nayeb-e-Amir of Dhaka Metropolitan North Jamaat, the Amir became physically weak and vomited while en route, forcing him to return home before reaching the venue. “Everyone is praying for his swift recovery,” Musa added.

The incident cast a brief shadow over the gathering, but attendees continued the programme in the hope that their leader would soon regain his health.
