BFIU seeks bank account details of Asif Mahmud
The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has sought the bank account details of Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, spokesperson of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and a former adviser to the interim government.
Acting on a complaint, the BFIU on Monday (March 2) sent letters to all banks requesting his account information.
A responsible source at the BFIU confirmed the matter on Tuesday night (March 3).
Banks have been instructed to submit all relevant documents, including account opening forms and transaction records, within three working days.
Asif Mahmud was one of three student representatives who served as advisers in the interim government following the July uprising. He held the portfolios of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, as well as Youth and Sports.
On December 10 last year, ahead of the 13th parliamentary elections, Asif Mahmud and Mahfuj Alam resigned from their advisory posts. Earlier, Nahid Islam, convener of the NCP and a current Member of Parliament, had also stepped down from his position.
Born in 1998 in Akubpur village under Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla, Asif Mahmud is the son of Md Billal Hossain and Rokshana Begum. He previously served as president of the Dhaka University unit of the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad. In 2023, he was the convener of the Dhaka University unit of Ganatantrik Chhatra Shakti, a student platform formed that year.
