A case has been filed against Nasiruddin Patwary, chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), over allegations of making defamatory remarks about BNP Standing Committee member and political adviser to the Prime Minister, Mirza Abbas. The court has accepted the case and issued a summons for Patwary to appear.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Hasan Shahadat issued the order on Sunday (March 8). Earlier that day, BNP’s Ramna Thana president, Ashraful Islam, filed the case in court.

Complainant’s lawyer, Amirul Islam Amir, said that after recording the complainant’s statement, the court issued a summons for the accused, Patwary, to appear.

According to the petition, Patwary, who contested the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election from Dhaka-8 as the NCP candidate, allegedly made false and defamatory statements about Mirza Abbas on social media and other online platforms during and after the election.

The petition further claims that after losing the election, Patwary continued to spread defamatory remarks against Mirza Abbas on social media, particularly on Facebook and YouTube, in an attempt to tarnish his reputation and political image.

On March 5, the complainant, Ashraful Islam, came across a post by Patwary on Facebook containing various statements about Mirza Abbas. The petition notes that the post later went viral on social media.

Notably, the Dhaka-8 constituency was a highly discussed seat in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election, with BNP’s Mirza Abbas and NCP’s Nasiruddin Patwary competing closely. Mirza Abbas won the election with 56,552 votes, while Nasiruddin Patwary received 51,572 votes, resulting in a victory margin of 4,980 votes for Mirza Abbas.
