Shanto steps down as Test captain after Colombo defeat
Najmul Hossain Shanto has announced his decision to step down as Bangladesh Test team's captain.
He made the announcement in a press conference after the Colombo Test against Sri Lanka in the island nation on Saturday, June 28, which Bangladesh lost to the hosts.
"I am stepping down as Bangladesh Test team's skipper. I have taken this decision for the betterment of the entire team," Shanto said.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on June 12 appointed Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the new ODI captain, replacing Shanto, for a year.
Earlier on January, Nazmul Hossain Shanto officially announced his decision to resign as the captain of T20I team.
Under his Shanto's captaincy, Bangladesh played 14 Tests, with won four, lost nine and drew one.
He led the Tigers to secure Test victory in New Zealand's soil and achieve historic Test win over Pakistan by 2-0 in the country.
