BPL spot-fixing probe: Preliminary report submitted to BCB

The preliminary report of the investigation committee formed over allegations of spot-fixing in the latest Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has finally been submitted to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). According to a press release, the three-member independent committee handed the report to BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul.

The committee was formed to investigate allegations of corruption, mismanagement, and procedural weaknesses during the 11th BPL, held in December–January.

The BCB said the report would be reviewed in strict confidentiality and in accordance with international standards, following ICC guidelines. Action will be taken against those named in the report in line with the BCB constitution, ICC anti-corruption regulations, and prevailing laws of the country.

However, to ensure transparency in the investigation and protect the rights of individuals concerned, no names will be disclosed at this stage. The BCB will decide on further action after reviewing the committee’s recommendations, the press release added.

The BCB also noted that the preliminary report includes several urgent reform proposals deemed essential for the next edition of the BPL, covering franchise management, anti-corruption measures, and structural safeguards. The committee is expected to submit its final report by the end of next month.

In February, then BCB president Faruk Ahmed led the board in forming the three-member independent committee to probe the spot-fixing allegations. The panel is headed by former Appellate Division judge Mirza Hossain Haider, with internationally renowned lawyer Dr. Khaled H. Chowdhury and former cricketer Shakil Kasem as members.

The BCB stated it will not make any further comments on the preliminary report.
