Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser for Information and Broadcasting, said that a decision on halting the broadcast of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Bangladesh will be made after reviewing the legal basis and verifying the process.

She made the remarks on Sunday (January 4) during an exchange of views with members of the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters’ Forum (BSRF) at the Secretariat. The session was presided over by BSRF President Masudul Haque and conducted by the organisation’s General Secretary Ubaidullah Badal.

Following the exclusion of Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL, the Law Adviser proposed suspending the tournament’s broadcast in the country. Commenting on the matter, Syeda Rizwana Hasan said, “If we could have kept the game just as a game, it would have been very good. But unfortunately, politics has been brought into it.”

She further added, “After a Bangladeshi player was confirmed to participate, it is being said—based on political reasoning, as we have seen in newspapers—that he will not be taken. In light of such a decision, the people of our country also feel hurt and have reacted to it.”

The adviser said, “In such a situation, we too have to take a position. We are reviewing the legal basis and verifying the process of that position. After this, we will take a step.”
