A special workshop on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in journalism was held on Saturday in Gulshan, Dhaka, equipping reporters with hands-on training in the latest AI tools for news editing, content creation, and multimedia integration.

The session, titled “AI in Journalism,” was jointly organised by Technology Media Guild Bangladesh (TMGB) and Bangladesh ICT and Innovation Network (BIIN) at the BIIN office. Ariful Islam Arman, Head of New Media Initiative at Dhaka Post, served as the trainer.

TMGB President Mohammad Kawsar Uddin, in his welcome remarks, described the training as “a timely initiative for journalists,” adding, “Our sincere thanks to BIN for organising it.”

Syed Almas Kabir, Chairman of the BIIN Trust and former President of BASIS, highlighted the growing need for tech-driven expertise in the industry. “This is the era of information technology. Academic degrees alone do not make someone skilled—technology-based expertise is now the key,” he said.

Kabir also announced that the “Bangladesh ICT and Innovation Awards 2025” will soon be launched to showcase homegrown innovations, tech enterprises, and creative initiatives on national and global platforms. Winners will be nominated for international competitions.

The organisers noted that AI is already reshaping global journalism by transforming news gathering, fact-checking, and content production. Similar training programmes are expected to expand in Bangladesh to enhance journalists’ skills and keep pace with global media trends.
