Tigers all out for 207 in first ODI against West Indies
Another day, another batting failure for Bangladesh. Despite surviving nearly 50 overs, the Tigers could not post a competitive total, folding for 207 runs in 49.4 overs in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.
The visitors now need 208 runs to take a 1–0 lead in the series.
Having lost the toss and been sent in to bat, Bangladesh’s innings began in familiar fashion—an early collapse. The hosts stumbled to 8 for 2 within three overs as both openers fell cheaply. Saif Hasan was trapped lbw by Romario Shepherd for just 3 runs on the fifth ball of the second over. The decision was so plumb that he didn’t even consider a review. Moments later, Soumya Sarkar, returning to the side after a long break, mistimed a drive off Jayden Seales and was caught at cover for 4.
With the top order gone, Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy tried to rebuild, though at a snail’s pace. The pair added 71 runs off 120 balls, more about survival than scoring. Shanto eventually departed for 32 off 63, trapped lbw by Khar Pierre, leaving Bangladesh struggling to accelerate.
Hridoy, too, found run-making tough on the sluggish Mirpur pitch. It took him 87 balls to reach his half-century—his 11th in ODIs—but he failed to convert it into a big one. He edged a wide delivery from Justin Greaves to the wicketkeeper and walked back for 51 off 90 balls, hitting just three boundaries.
The middle order offered brief resistance. Abhishek Ankan and Mehedi Hasan Miraz put on 43 runs for the fifth wicket, before Miraz (17 off 27) holed out to Roston Chase. Ankan looked composed but perished to the same bowler for 46 off 76, attempting an ambitious slog-sweep. His dismissal left Bangladesh reeling at 165 for 6.
From there, it was a familiar procession. Nurul Hasan Sohan scored 9 before edging behind, and only Rishad Hossain showed some late spark—smashing 26 off 12 balls with a four and two sixes—to push the total past 200. Tanvir Islam chipped in with a quick 9 off 4 balls, including a six, before the innings wrapped up.
For the West Indies, Jayden Seales led the attack with 3 wickets, while Roston Chase and Justin Greaves picked up two apiece.
With a modest 208-run target ahead, the visitors will fancy their chances of chasing it down comfortably unless Bangladesh’s bowlers can pull off something special under lights.
