The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) elections will be held in April, according to an announcement by BGMEA Administrator Anwar Hossain.

The decision came after a meeting with top leaders of the two contesting panels—Sammilita Parishad and Sammilita Forum—at the BGMEA complex in Uttara, Dhaka, on Saturday (January 11).

The meeting was attended by former BGMEA presidents Kazi Moniruzzaman, SM Fazlul Haque, Anwar-ul-Parvez, and Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, along with panel leaders from both Sammilita Parishad and Sammilita Forum. Members of the BGMEA’s supporting committee were also present.

During the meeting, a detailed discussion was held on organising a transparent, free, and impartial election. Anwar Hossain stated that preparations for the election are progressing smoothly with the cooperation of all stakeholders.

It was unanimously decided that an Election Management Board and relevant committees will be formed by the end of January. The election process is expected to be completed by the end of April.

In addition to election preparations, the meeting addressed key challenges facing the garment industry, including the ongoing energy crisis, banking and NBR-related issues, and strategic steps needed to ensure the industry’s growth.

The participants reaffirmed their commitment to working together to address these challenges and advance the progress of Bangladesh’s garment sector.
