Fashion Business Journal (FBJ) launched its new talk show series, Inside Fashion, on November 6 with a powerful inaugural episode: “Value Over Volume – A New Vision for Bangladesh RMG”.

Co-hosted with BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT), powered by Green Stitch and supported by the Textile and Garments Merchandising Blog, the live webinar drew professionals, students, and industry leaders from across Bangladesh and internationally.

The discussion challenged the sector’s reliance on low-margin, high-volume production. Prof Dr Ayub Nabi Khan of BUFT stressed the need for curriculum reform, highlighting new short courses in 3D design, AI, and robotics to prepare students for technical textiles – not just T-shirts and trousers.

Robert Antoshak of Grey Matter Concepts urged vertical integration: “Bangladesh must produce its own yarns and fabrics. Self-reliance reduces cost, boosts resilience, and opens higher-value markets like medical and industrial textiles.”

Prof Sadat Sayem from Manchester Fashion Institute called for digital innovation beyond imported tools. “We’re using CLO3D as a mannequin, not a mind. Local software, developed with IT partners, could unlock real creativity and reduce waste.”

Sheikh HM Mustafiz of Cute Dress Industry proved sustainability pays: “Solar power and water recycling cut costs, improve compliance, and build brand trust – especially as EU due diligence laws tighten.”

The panel agreed: Bangladesh must shift from being a cost-driven manufacturer to a value-driven innovator. “Don’t wait for buyers to demand change,” Mustafiz urged. “Lead it.”

Moderated by FBJ’s Prof. Sharif As-Saber, the session underscored media’s role in bridging industry, academia, and global trends.

With the RMG sector facing price pressure and regulatory scrutiny, Inside Fashion aims to spark action – not just dialogue. The next episode will explore circularity and digital product passports.
