LPG traders withdraw strike after talks with BERC

Liquified petroleum gas (LPG) traders have withdrawn their decision to suspend LPG cylinder sales nationwide.

Md Selim Khan, the president of the LPG Traders’ Cooperative Society Limited, announced this after a meeting with the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) on Thursday, January 8.

He said they are unable to sell a 12-kg LPG cylinder at a price below Tk 1,500 as they have to pay more than Tk 1,300 to purchase a 12-kg cylinder from operators.

At the meeting with BERC, traders presented three demands – stopping the ongoing drives by the administration across the country, raising charges of distributors and retail traders, and ensuring uninterrupted supply, Selim said.

The BERC chairman, Jalal Ahmed, assured them that they will speak to the administration about the raids and take legal steps to increase the charges, he added.
