The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining full cooperation with Bangladesh.

The assurance came on Thursday when Maxym Kryshko, resident representative of the IMF in Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman at the central bank headquarters.

Deputy Governor Md Habibur Rahman was also present during the meeting.

During the discussion, Kryshko congratulated the governor and expressed the IMF’s interest in working closely with the newly elected political government formed after the recent national election.

He said the IMF is keen to collaborate with Bangladesh on macroeconomic stability and financial sector reforms under the current administration.

Central bank sources said the meeting also discussed ongoing economic programmes supported by the IMF.

The IMF resident representative reiterated that the global lender would continue providing technical and financial assistance to help Bangladesh address its economic challenges.

The Bangladesh Bank governor thanked the IMF for its continued partnership and expressed optimism that cooperation between the central bank and the IMF would further strengthen the country’s financial framework in the coming days.
