Bangladesh to receive 192,000 tonnes of LNG over 10 days

Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, Bangladesh is set to receive 192,000 tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) over the next ten days to secure the country’s energy supply.

The state-owned company Petrobangla has imported the LNG, which will arrive in three separate shipments from Australia, Indonesia, and the United States.

The first shipment, carrying around 62,000 tonnes of LNG on the Liberian-flagged tanker HL Puffin from Australia, has already docked at Chittagong Port. Preparations are underway to unload the cargo at the FSRU terminal operated by RPCL in Maheshkhali, Bay of Bengal.

According to the Petrobangla source, the second shipment, the Liberian-flagged tanker New Brave, carrying roughly 61,500 tonnes of LNG from Indonesia, is scheduled to arrive on March 27. The third shipment, the Marshall Islands-flagged Celsius Galapagos, transporting approximately 70,000 tonnes of LNG from the United States, is expected to reach Bangladesh on April 4.

Chittagong Port Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim said that the Middle East conflict has created a global energy supply crunch, affecting countries like Bangladesh.

“To maintain uninterrupted energy distribution, Chittagong Port is prioritizing berthing and unloading operations for fuel vessels,” he added.
