JCD boycotts JUCSU polls alleging irregularities
The Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has boycotted the elections to the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) and hall unions alleging irregularities.
JCD-backed panel's general secretary (GS) candidate Tanzila Hossain Baishakhi announced this in a press conference on Thursday afternoon, September 11.
Alleging that JCD VP (vice president) candidate has been barred from entering Tajuddin Hall, Tanzila said vote counting machines (OMR) have been brought from a company owned by Jamaat leader.
"So, this is a staged election," she said, adding that the balloting was suspended at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Hall centre for around two hours as there was no photos in voter list.
The GS candidate also alleged that their polling agents were barred from staying at all halls.

Tanzila said polling officers of Islami Chhatra Shibir entered the centers an hour before the scheduled start of voting.
Besides, Shibir supporters rigged votes at different center and Shibir’s female supporters cast multiple votes and they were also engaged in vote rigging there.
The balloting began at 9:00am amid festive mood and end at 5:00pm.
The polls mark the first JUCSU elections in 33 years, a milestone development for campus politics and student representation at the university.
According to university sources, 11,919 students are eligible to vote, while 177 candidates are vying for 25 JUCSU posts.
To ensure smooth proceedings, around 1,200 police personnel have been deployed across the campus.
