Education quota admissions for class XI suspended

The Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board has suspended admissions under the ‘education quota’ for class XI in the 2025–26 academic year, following a High Court stay order.

The decision was announced in a notice signed by Professor Khondoker Ehsanul Kabir, Chairman of the board and President of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, on Sunday (September 21).

According to the notice, the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee had earlier issued admission guidelines on August 10 regarding ‘education quota-2’. The guidelines specified that the quota would benefit children of teachers, officers, and employees working in government schools, colleges, combined school-and-colleges, and education offices under the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education.

However, in compliance with the court order, the directive will remain suspended for now.

Sources said the ‘education quota-2’ was intended for children of officials and staff employed in 28 departments, directorates, and agencies under the Ministry of Education. But applications were also filed by children of businessmen and private-sector employees. Allegations have since emerged that some gained admission by submitting forged certificates. Reports on the issue have already appeared in Jago News and other outlets.
