Protesting teachers will go back to classroom, hopes adviser
Education Adviser Prof Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar has hoped that the protesting MPO-listed teachers and employees will return to the classrooms as the government approved a 5 per cent house rent allowance for them.
He said this while talking to the reporters at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday, October 19.
Abrar said the Ministry of Education has always tried to uphold teachers’ interest and in continuation of this, the progress has been done regarding house rent allowance.
“We think the teachers society deserves more. But the decision government has taken and the allocation Finance Ministry has given due to current limitations, we have tried enough from our end,” he noted.
“Now, I hope the teachers will accept the government decision and go back to the classrooms. I am making this request to them,” the adviser said.

Earlier this morning, the Ministry of Finance approved a five percent house rent allowance (minimum Tk 2,000) for the teachers and employees of non-government educational institutions under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme.
This information was shared in an order issued by the ministry.
However, the protesting teachers and employees rejected the government-approved house rent allowance and vowed to continue their movement until their three-point demand is met.
