MPO teachers seek pay scale from Tk 30,000 to Tk 1.56 lakh

The maximum proposed salary for MPO-affiliated teachers is Tk 1,56,000, with a minimum of Tk 30,000, according to a proposal submitted to the Pay Commission by a teachers’ alliance.

A delegation from the Alliance Seeking Nationalisation of MPO-Affiliated Education, representing MPO-affiliated educators, met with the Pay Commission to discuss the new salary structure and presented a 10-point proposal. The meeting took place at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday, 30 October.

The proposal calls for the basic salary of Grade-1 teachers to be set at Tk 1,56,000, followed by Tk 1,40,000 for Grade-2, Tk 1,25,000 for Grade-3, Tk 1,10,000 for Grade-4, Tk 95,000 for Grade-5, Tk 80,000 for Grade-6, Tk 70,000 for Grade-7, and Tk 62,000 for Grade-8.

For the lower grades, the alliance proposed Tk 55,000 for Grade-9, Tk 50,000 for Grade-10, Tk 45,000 for Grade-11, Tk 40,000 for Grade-12, Tk 35,000 for Grade-13, and Tk 30,000 for Grade-14.

Key Demands in the 10-Point Proposal:

The starting salary for MPO-affiliated teachers should correspond to the proposed Grade-9.

House rent allowance should be 40-70% of basic salary, in line with government employees.

Festival allowance or bonus should equal one month’s basic salary.

Baisakhi allowance should also equal one month’s basic salary.

The B Ed Act should be repealed.

The committee system in educational institutions should be abolished.

Retirement fund and welfare trust payments should be disbursed within six months of retirement.

Teachers and staff should be included in government ration benefits.

Allowances for fatigue and entertainment, along with other service-related benefits, should be introduced.

MPO-listed educational institutions should be nationalised.

The delegation included Principal Main Uddin, Principal Delwar Hossain Azizi, Md. Matiur Rahman, Md. Habibullah Raju, Md. Shanto Islam, Principal Md. Alauddin, Mohammad Nurul Amin Helali, Md. Zahirul Islam, Md. Tofail Sarkar, Md. Rabiul Islam, Md. Russell Mondal, and Md. Mahbub Alam.
