Admission lottery: 7.50 lakh didn't get preferred schools
Just 3,05,499 students have been selected for admission to government and non-government secondary schools across the country, while 7,50,555 did not get preferred schools.
Besides, 8,87,782 out of 11,93,281 vacant seats in the schools remained empty, according to the results of the digital lottery for admission to the institutions published on Thursday, December 11.
Prof Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, secondary wing director of the Secondary and Higher Education Directorate, attributed most students' preference for a few schools to the high number of students who did not get schools as per their expectations.
According to the directorate, this year’s online application window ran from November 21 to December 5, attracting 10,56,56,054 successful applicants for the 2026 academic session.
A total of 4,048 institutions – 688 government schools and 3,360 private schools –participated. Overall, there are 11,93,281 vacant seats nationwide.
