In a rare case of musical medicine meeting political meltdown, composer and lyricist Prince Mahmud has suggested National Citizen Party leader Sarjis Alam to “get some sleep, preferably with medical assistance.”

The chief organiser of the NCP’s northern region, Sarjis apparently made comments that rubbed the hitmaker the wrong way. Prince Mahmud, never one to miss a dramatic note, took to Facebook on Sunday afternoon to deliver his prescription, and his punchline.

“Dear Sarjis,” he wrote, “you are probably sleeping less. I think you are suffering from depression and emotional complications caused by deterioration of interpersonal relationships, mental stress, anxiety, insomnia, restlessness. You can try Revotril 2 mg or Lexotanil as per the doctor’s advice.”

The post instantly went viral, with fans calling it “the most melodic insult of the year.” One commenter quipped, “Prince just dropped a lullaby and a diagnosis at once.”

Prince Mahmud, known for anthems that fuelled the streets during the July movement, has long been outspoken about politics and social injustice.

From Rabindra Sarobar to Shaheed Minar, the man who once wrote songs for rebellion now writes prescriptions for rest.

Even after the fall of the dictatorship on August 5, the composer has kept his social activism alive, politely refusing government committee invitations and sharply refusing nonsense online.

As of press time, Sarjis Alam has not responded. But given the advice, he might just be… sleeping on it.
