At least eight people were killed and more than 20 sustained injuries after the bus they were travelling in caught fire near Tauru at Nuh district in Haryana of India in the early hours of Saturday, reports Times of India.

The bus was carrying around 60 people, all of whom were residents of Punjab and Chandigarh and were returning from Mathura-Vrindavan. 

The incident took place around 2 am on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway, according to police reports.

Local residents who witnessed the fire immediately took action, pursuing the bus and urging the driver to bring the vehicle to a halt. They also alerted the police and fire department about the unfolding emergency.

Despite their efforts, at least eight individuals tragically lost their lives, succumbing to the flames inside the bus. More than 20 passengers sustained injuries in the incident and were swiftly transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment, as confirmed by the police.
