Delhi sends burn specialists, nurses, and equipment to Dhaka

India is dispatching burn specialists, nurses, and specialised medical equipment to Dhaka to assist victims of a fighter jet crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, who are currently receiving treatment for burn injuries.

Following discussions between the foreign ministries of India and Bangladesh, the decision was finalised, report BBC Bangla.

A senior official from India's Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi said, "Two burn specialists with extensive experience, along with a team of nurses, are expected to arrive in Dhaka today (Tuesday). Specialised medical equipment is also being sent, with additional doctors to follow as needed."

The initiative began shortly after the crash on Monday, when Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri contacted his Bangladeshi counterpart, offering India's full support. That evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences via his X handle, stating, "India stands with Bangladesh in this crisis and is ready to provide all possible assistance."

Since then, the two governments have maintained close coordination through the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.

Bangladesh informed India that most victims suffered burns, highlighting the need for specialised medical teams, equipment, and advanced medicines. India promptly arranged for two burn specialists and nurses to be sent, with plans to deploy additional medical personnel underway, according to diplomatic sources from both nations.

Despite strained diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh over the past year, observers note that this humanitarian response marks a significant moment of cooperation between the two countries during a time of crisis.
