The Indian Coast Guard has detained 15 Bangladeshi fishermen and seized their trawler, FB Allah Malik, claiming that they intruded into Indian territorial waters for illegal fishing.
The Indian officials claimed they intercepted the Bangladesh-registered vessel off the West Bengal coast the night of November 30.
Upon verification of the vessel’s documentation, authorities took all 15 crew members into custody along with the trawler.
The fishermen and their vessel were formally handed over to the Fraserganj Coastal Police Station on the morning of December 1.
Police sources confirmed that all detainees are in good health and are being held pending further investigation.
