Pakistan allows Imran’s sister to meet him amid PTI protests
Pakistani authorities at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Tuesday allowed Uzma Khanum, sister of PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan, to meet him after weeks of reported restrictions on visitation.
Uzma entered the prison in the afternoon as scores of PTI supporters who accompanied her gathered outside the jail gate, chanting in support of the jailed leader.
The development came on a day when PTI supporters staged protests outside both the Islamabad High Court and Adiala Jail, alleging that Imran Khan’s family members and senior party leaders had been denied access to him for several weeks.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi claimed that no one had been allowed to meet Imran Khan or his wife, Bushra Bibi, since October 27.
Ahead of the demonstrations, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code was imposed in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, restricting gatherings of four or more people for a limited period. Authorities said the measure was taken to prevent disorder during the protests.
