A US F-35 fighter jet crashed north of Las Vegas in the western state of Nevada on Tuesday, the Air Force confirmed, with one pilot sustaining minor injuries.
Nellis Air Force Base public affairs said the aircraft crashed about 25 miles northeast of Indian Springs, Nevada, within the controlled airspace and restricted federal property of the Nevada Test & Training Range.
Officials reported that the pilot is safe and receiving treatment for minor injuries. The cause of the crash was not immediately known as of Tuesday afternoon.
Nellis Air Force Base emphasized that no populated areas were affected.
"The safety of our personnel and the community remains our top priority," a spokesperson said.
