Seven people were killed and six others injured after a rice-laden truck lost control and fell into a roadside ditch on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Daudkandi, Cumilla.

The accident occurred around 2:45 am on Tuesday (April 13) in the Hasanpur area of the upazila.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daudkandi Highway Police Station, Mohammad Iqbal Bahar Majumder, confirmed the matter to the media.

Police and local sources said that a rice-laden truck travelling from Dinajpur to Chattogram lost control and plunged into a roadside ditch. At the time, 13 passengers riding on the truck were trapped underneath it. Seven men were killed on the spot, while six others were injured.

The injured were rescued and taken to different hospitals in the district. The bodies were recovered and taken to the police station. Traffic movement on the highway was disrupted for some time after the accident but has now returned to normal.
