13 to die for killing labour leader in Gazipur

A Gazipur court has sentenced thirteen people to death in a case filed for killing a labour leader Bilu Mia in 1995.

Judge Fazle Elahi Bhuiyan of Additional District and Sessions Judge’s Court-1 in Gazipur handed down the verdict on Monday.

Additional Public Prosecutor of the court Advocate Maqbool Hossain Kajol confirmed it to Jago News.

He said that seven of the convicts were present to hear the verdict while the remaining six are absconding.

Each of the convicts has also been fined Tk 10,000, Kajol said.

According to the case dossier, the convicts attacked and killed Billol Hossain Bilu at Kaliganj’s Ishwarpur Village in 1995. Bilu was 45-years-old at the time.

His wife filed a case over the murder at Kaliganj Police Station. The court indicted 13 suspects based on a police investigation.
