Lightning kills 15 in C’nawabganj

Fifteen people of a bridal party were killed and five others injured by a lightning strike in Chapainawabganj on Wednesday noon.

The incident took place at Charpaka union in Shibganj upazila around 12pm when they were going to bride’s house by a boat.

Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. 

Confirming the matter to Jago News, Farid Hossen, Officer-in-charge of Shibganj Police Station, said all of the deceased were the inhabitants of Narayanpur union in Chapainawabganj sadar upazila. 

Local people said, the members of the bridal party took their shelter in a tin-shed house during a sudden rain and later a lightning struck on it. At that time fifteen people were killed on the spot and five others injured. 

In this connection, Shibganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sakib Al Rabbi said the dead bodies and the injured were taken to upazila health complex. The death toll might be increased.
