Helper was operating the crane: RAB

Rakib Hossain, 23, a helper of the crane’s main operator Al Amin was operating the crane when a girder of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project fell on a private car in the capital’s Uttara.

RAB’s Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Khandaker Al Moen confirmed the matter to Jago News on Thursday.

He said, Rakib had no any experience of operating crane. Al Amin, who has no license to drive heavy vehicles like crane, was giving directions to helper standing nearby.

Earlier on Wednesday night, RAB arrested nine people including Al Amin and Rakib Hossain over the death of five members of a family who were killed after a girder of BRT project collapsed on their microbus on Monday afternoon.

They were arrested from Dhaka, Gazipur, Sirajganj and Bagerhat.

The victims were returning after attending a wedding ceremony in Dhaka.

They were crushed under the girder that fell when it was being moved by a crane.
