Viqarunnisa teacher arrested over alleged sexual harassment

A teacher of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College’s Azimpur campus in Dhaka has been arrested for allegedly sexual harassing a student.

The arrestee was identified as Murad Hossain, a senior teacher of the institution. 

Mohammad Helal Uddin, Officer-in-charge of Lalbagh Police Station, confirmed the matter to Jago News. 

He said the teacher has been arrested in a case filed by a student for allegedly sexual harassment.

Earlier on Monday night, Viqarunnisa Noon School’s governing body in an emergency meeting suspended the teacher temporarily.

Keka Roy Chowdhury, Acting Principal of the institution, said they took the decision to suspend the teacher after the allegations of sexual harassment brought against him were found to be primarily true.

Moreover, a decision was made to form a three-member committee to further investigate the allegations, she said.  

On Saturday, the school authority withdrew the teacher and subsequently attached him to the principal’s office in the face of demonstration by a section of students and their guardians.
