Gazipur gas cylinder blast death toll rises to 6

Another victim of the gas cylinder explosion in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur died in a hospital in the capital Dhaka on Sunday.

The victim, Nargis Khatun, 25, died around 7 pm while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said the facility resident doctor Md Tarikul Islam.

Nargis was the daughter of Abdur Razzaque, a resident of East Bhera Khola under Shahjadpur Police Station in Sirajganj. She along with her husband and minor son lived in Gazipur.

Earlier this morning, two other victims of the incident passed away at the burn institute. They were Mohidul Islam, 25, husband of Nargis, and Ariful Islam. 

With this, the death toll from the explosion increased to six.

On March 13, at least 35 people suffered burn injuries in a gas cylinder explosion at the home of Shafique Khan, a resident in Telirchala area in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur.

Of them, 32 were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, Dhaka in a critical condition.

Locals said a cooking gas cylinder started leaking at the home of Shafique. Later, he brought the cylinder to the main door and threw it out on the road, leading to the explosion.
