Bus to run on Gazipur-Dhaka BRT from Dec 16

Bus services will formally be inaugurated on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project from Gazipur to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka on December 16.

Md Ehsanul Hoque, senior secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division, shared this information in a discussion at Shibbari BRT station in Gazipur after inspecting the project on Saturday afternoon, December 7.

Initially, the project will be opened with two air-conditioned buses on trial basis, he said.

Now there are footbridges at each station but these are not adequate for movement. That is why, additional 10 footbridges will be built from Gazipur to Dhaka airport, he also said.

Mentioning around 98 per cent works of the project have been completed, the senior secretary added, “We hope it will be functional completely in June next year.”

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, BRTA, Chairman Mohammed Yasin said, “People are eagerly waiting about when the project will be launched. We can inaugurate it on December 16 in a small scale.”

There will be some problems after the inauguration of the project and these will be solved gradually, he added.
