Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali announced on Tuesday that an additional 3,000 police personnel have been deployed to ensure comprehensive security for 31st night celebrations in Dhaka.

He stated that magistrates from the Department of Environment will also be present alongside the police to conduct mobile courts wherever necessary.

Speaking at a briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Tuesday, the commissioner outlined the security measures taken by the DMP for both 31st night and New Year’s celebrations.

When asked about police deployment for the occasion, the commissioner said, “Regular police deployment is always in place to ensure security in Dhaka. Each outpost operates at least two-night patrol teams, while police stations deploy four to five teams nightly. This is part of our regular deployment. For 31st night, we have deployed an additional 3,000 personnel.”

He assured that the deployment would be sufficient, emphasising enhanced surveillance in key areas, including Dhaka University, Gulshan, the 300 Feet area, and Diabari in Uttara.

He added, “Alongside our police force, magistrates from the Department of Environment will be present. If they conduct mobile courts at any location, our officers will assist them.”

The commissioner also disclosed that the DMP had considered organizing a centralized event for this year’s celebrations but could not proceed. “We hope to arrange such an event next year,” he said.

When asked about potential threats during the festivities, the commissioner clarified, “There are no threats.”
