Man missing since Aug 5 identified by wife at DMCH morgue

Kabil Hossain (57), who was killed during the anti-discrimination student movement, remained unidentified for more than five months while lying in the morgue of Dhaka Medical College (DMCH).

Kabil went missing on August 5, and it was only after receiving information via social media that his wife, Selina Begum, identified his body at the morgue on Saturday.

According to family sources, Kabil, a fish trader by profession, left his residence in Maniknagar, Dhaka, on the morning of August 5. After that, his family lost all contact with him. Last Friday, they learnt through social media and news outlets that several unidentified bodies were lying in the hospital morgue. The following Saturday, when they visited the morgue, his wife recognised his body by the clothes he was wearing.

The hospital authorities then informed Shahbagh Police Station.

Selina Begum confirmed that her husband, Kabil, was a fish trader, and their family hailed from Cumilla. However, due to work, they had been living in a rented house in the Maniknagar area of Dhaka.
