The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has conducted a raid on the Dhanmondi residence of Sitanshu Kumar Sur Chowdhury, former Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, seizing Tk 1.75 lakh in cash.

The raid follows his recent arrest in a corruption case.

ACC Director General Md. Akhter Hossain confirmed the operation to Jago News on Sunday (January 19). The raid was led by ACC Director Md Saimuzzaman.

“A raid has been conducted at SK Sur's house. Further details will be shared in due course,” Akhter Hossain said.

Earlier, on January 14, SK Sur Chowdhury was arrested by an ACC team led by Deputy Director Nazmul Hossain, with support from the police’s Intelligence Department. The arrest stemmed from his failure to submit an asset declaration, as required by law.

The case against him was filed on December 23, 2023, and he was subsequently produced in court following his arrest.

The ACC began investigating SK Sur Chowdhury in 2022 after his name surfaced in connection with the PK Halder financial scandal, a high-profile corruption case involving significant embezzlement and money laundering.

In March 2022, SK Sur was summoned to the ACC for questioning. He had retired from his position as Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank in January 2018.
