Case filed over attack during raid at polythene factory
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan has said a case has been filed over the attack during an anti-polythene drive in Dhaka’s Chawkbazar.
She said the drive against the producers of illegal polythene bag will continue despite obstacles from the vested quarters.
Rizwana said this at a virtual meeting with the deputy commissioners, DCs, from Pani Bhaban in Dhaka on Sunday afternoon, January 26.
Mentioning that around 1.25 crore polythene bags are being produced everyday as wastage, she said, “We will have to stop polythene production and marketing to protect the environment and everyone must work together to this end.”
Earlier this afternoon, the Department of Environment, DoE, conducted an operation at a polythene factory in Chawkbazar as part of regular drive. During the drive, they seized goods and sealed off factory.
When the officials were returning after the raid, a group of people attacked them and vandalised the truck which carried seized machine and goods and looted these, leaving DoE director (monitoring and enforcement) Md Shawkat Ali injured.
