Hasina’s provocative remarks caused Dhanmondi vandalism: Govt

The government has condemned the vandalism at the house on Road 32 in Dhanmondi, calling it an "unintended and undesirable" incident.
In an official statement, it attributed the act to public outrage sparked by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s alleged inflammatory speeches while in exile in India.
Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, issued the statement on Thursday (February 6), stating that Hasina’s remarks against the July Uprising had fuelled resentment, leading to the incident.
The statement clarified that no such attacks had occurred at the house on road 32 in the past six months until the night of February 5. The government pointed to two key aspects of Hasina’s recent speech as triggers for the act:
Disrespecting Martyrs of the July Uprising – Hasina allegedly made derogatory comments about those who sacrificed their lives in the movement, which many perceived as contemptuous.
Threatening Stability – Despite fleeing Bangladesh amid protests, Hasina continues to issue threats against the July Uprising, the statement claimed, accusing her of using the same rhetoric that marked her tenure of alleged corruption, terrorism, and human rights violations.
The government asserted that Hasina's statements were reopening old wounds linked to the July Massacre, resulting in the public outcry witnessed in Dhanmondi.
Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining law and order, the interim government assured that law enforcement agencies were working to prevent further unrest. "If Sheikh Hasina, a wanted individual accused of crimes against humanity, refrains from making provocative statements, such incidents can be avoided," the statement read.
The government also urged India not to allow its territory to be used for destabilizing activities against Bangladesh and called on New Delhi to restrict Hasina from inciting unrest.
Meanwhile, trials related to the July Massacre continue, with the interim government vowing justice for the victims and legal action against those engaging in activities aimed at disrupting national stability.
