A sexagenarian was brutally murdered, with his throat slit, inside a flat on the seventh floor of a building in Tanbazar Sahapara, Narayanganj, on Monday night.

The deceased, Utpal Roy, 62, was a Project Director at Save the Children. He is survived by two sons—one living abroad and the other a doctor.

According to police, quoting the victim’s family, a maid from the Bandar area arrived at the flat between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Monday. She reportedly left between 8:30 pm and 9:00 pm. Around 9:30 pm, Utpal Roy’s son, Ujjal Roy, a project director at Save the Children, returned home and found the door locked from the inside. After breaking the lock and entering, he found his father lying in a pool of blood.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station, Mohammad Nasir Ahmed, stated that police have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrator and the motive. He added that legal action will follow accordingly.
