ACC to act against corrupt officials: Mokhlesur
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Md Mokhlesur Rahman, has said that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will take action against officials found to be involved in corruption.
He made this statement while speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Sunday (February 23).
In recent days, the interim government has been taking disciplinary actions against Deputy Commissioners (DCs) who were responsible for three controversial elections held during the Awami League's tenure. Already, 65 officials have been forced into retirement and made Officer on Special Duty (OSD).
The Senior Secretary said, "Those who have been subjected to these actions, such as being made OSD or forced to retire, are said to have committed heinous financial crimes. There have been many rumors circulating about our colleagues, with figures such as 4 crore, 5 crore, and 30 crore mentioned. If we find credible evidence through various agencies and our own systems, we will refer only those cases to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)."
He further explained, "For those who have been temporarily made OSD without being involved in any crime, they will continue to live a normal life. This is not a problem. The government is not biased; it will act with great caution to ensure that no innocent official is punished or dishonored."
Mokhlesur Rahman also stated that they have sent information about the officials responsible for overseeing the 2024 elections to the intelligence agencies, and these will be reviewed. "As you know, there is a committee led by four advisers. These matters will be analyzed in that committee. No decision will be made based on bias or external influence. All decisions will be made according to established rules and regulations."
