DU student’s hanging body recovered
The police have recovered the body of a 24-year-old woman who was found hanging from the ceiling fan in a female hostel on Elephant Road, in the Newmarket police station area of the capital, around 11:00 pm on Sunday.
The deceased, Anika Meherunnesa Sahi, 24, a student of the Management Department at Dhaka University, was the daughter of Md Feroz Hossain from Newhat village in Joypurhat sadar upazila.
After receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene and took her to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 1:45 am on Monday, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
Biraj Misri, Sub-Inspector of New Market police station, stated, "We found her in room 803 on the 8th floor of Maksud Tower on Elephant Road, hanging by a scarf from the ceiling fan. After being taken to the hospital, the doctor confirmed her death."
He further mentioned that they had learned the student had been in a romantic relationship with a young man, and the incident might have occurred due to a dispute related to this relationship. A student has been taken into custody for questioning by the police. The body has been sent for an autopsy at the hospital’s morgue to determine the exact cause of death, and legal proceedings are ongoing.
